Every St. Patrick’s Day, if you walk into any bar, you will invariably see someone drinking a green beer. You might think that everyone’s favorite St. Patrick’s Day drink is difficult to make, but it is actually ridiculously easy.
The only thing you need to make green beer is a few drops of food coloring and your favorite beer.
Your first instinct might be to run out and buy green food coloring; makes sense, right? Beer plus green food coloring equals green beer. However, blue food coloring seems to work the best. With the yellowish color of the beer, blue food coloring turns it to a nice shade of green, much better than green does.
Different types of beer will give off a different shade, and you can also play around with the amount of food coloring you drop into your beverage, giving it exactly the right hue.
One of the common mistakes made while making green beer is the type of beer used. Any beer can be made to look green, but dark beers take quite a bit of coloring. If you don’t want to look like you have been eating grass, I would suggest using a lighter colored beer. You only need to add 5-6 drops of coloring to make your everyday beer more festive.
